A friendly local church
Abbeyfield Community Church
We are a medium size independent church located just south of Colchester town centre.
Our main Sunday service is at 10.30 a.m. We also meet on two Sunday evenings
each month and midweek,
for communion and for prayer.
There are senior and junior youth clubs, both on Friday evening. From 6 to 7 p.m. is Kidz, a club for children in school years 3-6. From 7.30 to 9 p.m. is Elevate, a club for school years 7-11.
There are also house groups; ask for information if interested, and a monthly service at Foxburrow Grange care home.
We are affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches.
The church is in Abbeygate Street, which is off St
John's Street, opposite the bottom of Scheregate Steps.
Colchester bus station is in St John's Street about 3 minutes walk away.
There is no parking at the church, but several public car parks nearby.
The church began at the beginning of the last century as the Gospel Band, a group of Christians meeting together to make music and sing to the glory of God. In the 1960s the name was changed to Colchester Evangelical Church, and the church became affiliated to the FIEC. Around 10 years ago the name was changed to Abbeyfield Community Church, it being our intention to seek to serve the large new housing development on former garrison land around Abbey Fields.
We were hoping to establish a community centre on the development, but this is no longer proceeding. We are seeking God's guidance on how best to proceed.
Dave Landers has now joined us as our Pastor. We welcome him, his wife Carol and son Peter to Colchester, and to the church, and look forward to all that the Lord will do among us.
